2019 has been a busy year for the management team at iTouch with Waheed Adam elected to the MEF Global board, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.
In South Africa, a new board has been elected at the WASPA AGM. In its announcement, iTouch CEO Greg Brophy was officially elected as the new Chairman of the WASPA board as of 2019.
The WASPA board represent the interests of local wireless application service providers, while also building the association's consumer protection mandate.
The WASPA Board for 2019
The volunteer management committee includes a range of professionals who all commit time to the non-profit organisation. WASPA was founded in 2004 and it aims to foster consumer confidence in the WASP industry through responsible self-regulation.
iTouch congratulates each member on their election, confident that 2019 will be a productive year for the new WASPA board. We welcome this new chapter and are eager to see the new board tackle current issues and encourage opportunities in the telecommunications and messaging industry.
What is WASPA?
The Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association (WASPA) was formed in 2004 as a self-regulatory body with a mandate to represent and regulate its voluntary members, which provide mobile-based Value Added Services (VAS), otherwise known as WASPs.
Membership of an industry body with a recognised Code of Conduct has been made compulsory by Telkom Mobile, Cell C, MTN and Vodacom for all WASPs. WASPA’s Code of Conduct and Advertising rules were developed and implemented in 2005. WASPA has established a complaints handling process, to enforce these rules, that is independent of the WASPA Management Committee.
As of 2018, WASPA has over 400 members. To find out more about WASPA please see the official site
