The day started when I met Naledi and her Aunty outside the Spur. I was greeted with a huge smile and a big hug. I handed Naledi the RFAD Bear which she welcomed and hugged with smiles. We were welcomed to Spur by our waitress Yolanda who was very friendly and looked after us.

The day began with a rather big lunch of spur ribs and chicken wings combo for Naledi and her Aunt. Then it was time to tell Naledi about her special day. I handed the V & A voucher to Naledi then told her the value ………… Her face lit up like a big sun beam. She literally had just won the lotto. She was so excited and could hardly believe what was happening.

I then told her about the boat trip we were going on and the “Big Wheel”.

After lunch the shopping spree began. First we went into Woolworths where Naledi immediately chose a very snug and warm dressing gown and some fleece matching PJ’s. I think this ended up being one of her most valuable purchases, together with the Nike trainers she bought from Totalsports.

We walked around all the shops buying bits and pieces as we went along. After a couple of hours we had more shopping bags than Naledi could ever have imagined, and the voucher had been WELL spent.

It was now time to relax on the Sightseeing Tours harbour boat trip. We were met by 2 Sightseeing Tour guides who were very helpful and kind especially assisting with the wheelchair and making sure Naledi was looked after and comfortable. Though a bit chilly, Naledi was full of big smiles as we cruised through the Cape Town harbour, Naledi enjoyed relaxing on the boat watching the seals show off in the sunshine. So after half an hour of relaxation it was once again time to move on … the last part of her exciting day was a ride on the Cape Town Big Wheel.

Naledi was really excited all over again. The staff were extremely helpful and assisted in getting Naledi and the wheelchair into the carriage. Big big smiles yet again.

Once the ride had finished Naledi was just a bundle of laughter as she couldn’t quite believe her Aunty had been scared on the wheel. As a little surprise I handed Naledi her beautiful photos that were so kindly donated by the Cape Town Big Wheel company.

Naledi felt like a Superstar. And so the day was coming to an end ……… before we left the V & A Waterfront I spoilt Naledi and her Aunt with some goodies to take home with them and for the taxi ride. Naledi chose bar ones and Astros and fanta cooldrink for them both, again big thanks and smiles.

I waited with Naledi and her Aunt until the taxi arrived to pick them up. The time was nearly 6pm. Naledi gave a big sigh and said “Shew I’m tired”. But she was a very happy, tired young lady.

Naledi was a truly amazing young lady who had the most enjoyable happy experience. Her dream had truly come true!

Later that evening Naledi’s Grandmother rang me. She could not thank RFAD enough for what we had done for Naledi. She said it was the most special day Naledi had ever had and how she was just so grateful. She said Naledi would never ever forget it. She also mentioned that Naledi was so warm and snug in her new Pajamas and that her granddaughter would never be cold again.
